WAYNE BARNES has swapped his barrister's wig for a referee's whistle to become the RFU's sixth full-time referee.

The 25-year-old, a specialist in criminal law, becomes the RFU's youngest ever full-time elite referee.

He acknowledges the switch may be seen as unorthodox by some, but he had no hesitation in making it.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for me to work with England's best referees who include some of the most impressive match officials on the international circuit"" said Barnes, who handled Coventry's game against Plymouth Albion at the Butts Park Arena The stadium was built in 2004 and currently has two stands. The East Stand has a capacity of 3000 and includes a number of conference and banqueting facilities. The West Stand is currently only a temporary structure holding 1000.  in February.
