Barnes & Noble to open Kansas City, Missouri, superstore in early fall of 1997.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1996--Barnes & Noble, Inc. today announced it has signed a lease agreement to open a 25,000 square foot store in Kansas City, Missouri Kansas City is the largest city in the state of Missouri. It encompasses parts of Jackson, Clay, Cass, and Platte counties and is the anchor city of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, the second largest in Missouri, which includes counties in both Missouri and Kansas. .

The store, expected to open in late September of 1997, will be located at 400 N.W. Barry Road.

Len Riggio, later joined by his brother Steve, built the business from one location into what is now the nation's largest bookseller.
