Barnes & Noble to Open New Store At 3400 Rib Mountain Drive, Wausau, Wisconsin; New Bookstore Debuts On October 23.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 2002

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world's largest bookseller, will open a new 22,500-square-foot bookstore on October 23 at 3400 Rib Mountain Drive in Wausau, Wisconsin. The store will stock close to 200,000 book, music, DVD and magazine titles and include a cafe serving Starbucks coffee. The new Wausau Barnes & Noble will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8 p.m., and employ approximately 50 people from the community.

The public is invited to a Preview Night Party at the new Wausau Barnes & Noble on Tuesday, October 22, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The evening festivities will include live music, coffee, iced tea and dessert samplings from the Barnes & Noble Cafe. For children, there will be storytime at 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. with Lily from Lily and the Purple Purse by Kevin Henkes and a visit from Clifford, the Big Red Dog, who will greet fans throughout the evening. Margaret George, author of Mary Called Magdelene, will also be at the store at 7:00 p.m. to sign copies of her book. A portion of the Preview Night sales will benefit the Salvation Army's "Reading is Fundamental" program.

Barnes & Noble's bookselling innovations have established it as the number-one operator of retail bookstores in America. Its innovations include:
