Barnes & Noble Launches the Author Discussion Series At the Hampton Synagogue.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 1999--

Barnes & Noble and The Hampton Synagogue are pleased to present The Author Discussion Series at the Hampton Synagogue this summer. Four prominent authors -- Yaffa Eliach, Michael Skakun, Irene Gut Opdyke Irene Gut Opdyke (May 5, 1922 - May 17, 2003), born in Kozienice, Poland, was a nurse who, after being released from a concentration camp herself, rescued 16 Jews by hiding them in the villa of a Nazi officer who had requisitioned her as his servant.  and Allegra Goodman Allegra Goodman, Ph. D. (b. 1967) is an American author based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her most recent novel, Intuition, was published in 2006. Goodman wrote and illustrated her first novel at the tender age of seven.  -- will read and discuss their latest works at the Synagogue.

He is also chairman of the World Jewish Congress American Section, president and founder of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, and past  of the Hampton Synagogue.

Yaffa Eliach, Professor of Judaic Studies at Brooklyn College Brooklyn College: see New York, City University of. , is a poet, essayist, historian and writer. There Once Was A World is a landmark work which chronicles the history of a Jewish community in Eishyshok, Poland, from its origins in the Middle Ages to its destruction during the Second World War.

Thursday, July 29th, 7:00p.m.

On Burning Ground: A Son's Memoir marks the debut of Michael Skakun. A son recounts how his Jewish Polish father had to disguise himself as a Christian and joined the Nazi SS to save his own life.
