), the world's largest bookseller, announced today that it collected and donated more than 1.2 million books during its 2008 Holiday Book Drive. With the help of enthusiastic booksellers and generous customer donations, Barnes & Noble was able to collect more books to help needy children in communities across the country than ever before. In addition, Barnes & Noble, together with subsidiary Sterling Publishing, donated another 100,000 books to First Book, a nonprofit providing new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy - access to books.

"Every year we receive so many wonderful compliments from customers, booksellers, and especially from recipient organizations about our Holiday Book Drive," says Sarah DiFrancesco, director of Community Relations 1. The relationship between military and civilian communities.
