Barnardo's wall brought to life.

A BARE brick wall has been transformed into a jungle teeming with animals and a sea scene with boats and shoals of fish.

The project has transformed the bleak-looking back yard wall at the Barnardo's Cymru Neville Street Service at Riverside into a colourful and child-friendly backdrop for the outdoor play area.

Community artist Megan Lloyd, from Llanover Hall Arts Centre, in Canton, led the project, but the ideas came from the children who attend the pre-school playgroup. The youngsters were also able to help out with the painting.

Jackie Vining, Barnardo's project manager, said: "The children all chipped in with ideas - some wanted crocodiles, some big brown bears, and one little boy insisted there had to be a boat.

"Outdoor play will be much more imaginative and exciting for the children."

The mural will be unveiled to visitors at a Summer Garden Party at Neville Street.

Barnardo's Neville Street Service provides a range of support services for children and families with particular focus on people from black minority ethnic communities.
