Barley leads Colts over Millers.


Byline: The Register-Guard

SPRINGFIELD - Thurston scored all of its runs in the first and third innings and pitcher Brian Barley did the rest with a complete game as the Colts shut out Springfield 10-0 in a Midwestern League prep baseball game on Thursday.

Barley allowed only four hits, struck out five and walked three. Shaun Davis went 2-for-3, scored two runs and knocked in two others for Thurston. Nick Smith added a two-run single.

Sky-Em League

Marits 11, Elmira 0

The Spartans' Patrick Cooley allowed only two hits, one walk and struck out nine in his complete-game shutout win over the Falcons.

Jordan Jeffries hit a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning and ended the night 2-for-4 with a double. David Fox was also 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Marist.

Sutherlin 11, Junction City 5

JUNCTION CITY - The Bulldogs broke open a game tied at 2-2 with a seven-run fifth inning as they recorded the road win over the Tigers.

Brian Parnell struck out nine in his complete-game victory, and also went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the fifth.

Pleasant Hill 11, Creswell 1

CRESWELL - Pitcher Josh Breslaw allowed a run in the first inning but locked down after that as the Billies routed the Bulldogs.

Breslaw threw the complete game and added a two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning. Eric Downes was 3-for-3 and scored four runs, and Noah Breslaw was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Cottage Grove 2, Glide 1

COTTAGE GROVE - Zach Maddess hit a bloop single into right field to score Geoff Dunn from third base in the bottom of the eighth as the Lions beat the Wildcats.

Sky Manon scored to tie the game for the Wildcats on a fourth-inning single by Jeff Graham.

Far West League

South Umpqua 11, Bandon 1

MYRTLE CREEK - Jason Stevenson threw a no-hitter and struck out eight as the Lancers beat the Tigers.

Stevenson also went 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, and Jahred Steen hit a three-run homer in the fourth.

Reedsport 10, Brookings 0

REEDPSORT - The Braves' Joey Merrifield set the tone with a home run to open the game, followed by Nick Borrevik's two-run shot later in the inning in the win over the Bruins.

Chad Harrington and Kenny Walker each homered in Reedsports' seven-run fifth inning.

Siuslaw 21, Myrtle Point 0

FLORENCE - Mike Pitcher went the distance on the mound and the Vikings capitalized on 11 errors to beat the Bobcats.

Val-Co League

Newport 11, Waldport 0

WALDPORT - Daniel Ritacco had two homers and four RBIs for the Cubs, and Paul Montgomery and Ivan Munoz also homered in the five-inning game. Matt Dundas struck out six in a one-hit shutout.

Trico League

Crow 11, McKenzie 0

CROW - Ryan Hughes hit a grand slam and had six RBIs as the Cougars rolled over the Eagles.

Hughes also struck out nine in his two-hit shutout, and Jake Nelson also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Crow.

Mapleton 16, Lowell 2

MAPLETON - The Sailors scored nine in the first two innings and cruised past the Red Devils. Brett Wilkerson struck out seven over five innings and also hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Joey Iverson was 3-for-3 with two doubles.
