NAPERVILLE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2003

Barix (www.barix.com) today announced several new IP-enabled home control components, including enhancements and a new addition to its recently introduced line of network audio players, Exstreamer and Exstreamer Wireless (www.exstreamer.com).

Exstreamer GOLD, Professional MP3 Player A digital music player that supports the MP3 format, which was the audio format that started a revolution in online music downloads and distribution. All portable music players, the iPod being the most popular, support MP3 along with one or more other audio formats.  with Real-time Encoding See encode.  Capability

Exstreamer GOLD, the latest addition to the Exstreamer product series, was developed for the professional home installer market. The device features a rugged aluminum case, 2x20W speaker amplifiers, TOSLink digital output, and a serial interface for control by home automation systems. Additionally, due to unique synchronization (1) See synchronous and synchronous transmission.

Exstreamer GOLD can be configured to encode (1) To assign a code to represent data, such as a parts code. Contrast with decode.

(2) To convert from one format or signal to another. See codec and D/A converter.

(3) The term is sometimes erroneously used for "encrypt.
audio in real time, turning legacy analog audio devices into a standard network audio source, thus connecting the "past" to the "future" of digital audio. The generated audio stream can easily be routed throughout a local network and turned into audio again by Exstreamer and Exstreamer Wireless.

"Until now, network-based audio systems could not integrate 'classic' audio sources, such as analog tapes and receivers, very well," said Barix CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Exstreamer GOLD allows integrators to install complete distributed audio systems using standard IP technology, integrating network-based as well as standard digital and analog sources.

New Infrared (IR) Remote Control Gateway Technology

With Barix's IR Ethernet Gateway, IR commands can be received and sent to the local network for home automation and control purposes. Additionally, the IR Ethernet Gateway offers IR output capability, allowing transmission of IR commands to IR controllable devices.

IR Ethernet Gateway technology, end-users, consumer electronics manufacturers, and custom installers now can web-enable almost any product controllable via an IR remote control, as well as many devices that allow control via serial control interfaces.

The IR Gateway functionality is available as an upgrade for Barix's Exstreamer and Exstreamer Wireless network MP3 players, which allow users to enjoy MP3 files and digital audio on their existing home stereo and entertainment systems via Ethernet or 802.11b networks. Exstreamer is available through Barix's U.S. Master distributor, Grid Connect Inc. (www.gridconnect.com).
