Members of the aviation unit loaded the aircraft onto the roll-on, roll-off barge, Dynamica. After the Dynamica arrived at the port, Soldiers and civilians from the 838th discharged the barge and loaded the helicopters onto the American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier vessel Liberty. Once loaded, the Liberty departed for Charleston, S.C. This mission illustrates how the Rhine River Detachment continues to be a significant asset of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command and a vital transportation enabler within the European theater. Located in the heart of the theater, the detachment offers the distinct advantage of having a direct link to the major commands in the U.S. European Command and being a visible SDDC SDDC Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (formerly Military Traffic Management Command) SDDC Single Data Device Correction presence.
