Bard bladder cancer test receives FDA approval.

MURRAY HILL, NJ--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- November 30, 1995--C.R. Bard, Inc. (NYSE-BCR) announced today that it has received pre-market approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the Bard(r) BTA(r) test. The Bard BTA test is used for the qualitative measurement of bladder tumor associated analytes in human urine to aid in the management of bladder cancer patients. The Bard BTA test is the only tumor marker for bladder cancer accepted for use by the FDA.

This new test can be performed in a physician's office with rapid results -- within three minutes -- allowing the physician to make immediate decisions about patient care," said William H. The Bard BTA test, which was launched outside the U.S. earlier this year, sells for one-quarter of the price charged for the reference lab test it replaces. An estimated 50,000 people are diagnosed with bladder cancer annually in the United States, and over 250,000 people are monitored annually. Early detection and treatment of bladder cancer greatly improves a patient's chance of survival. The Bard BTA test will be commercially available in the U.S. in early 1996 and will be marketed by the Bard Urological division.
