Software Improves Efficiency and Accuracy of Data

Management for Medical Research Facilities

TOPAZ Technologies and Barcoding.com have jointly created a mobile, handheld solution for TOPAZ's GRANITE software.

Census Plus mobilizes laboratory research data, allowing for the collection, editing, and viewing of data throughout a medical researcher's facility. All of the collected data is then uploaded into GRANITE, where the results can be validated, and stored in the database.

Census Plus enhances GRANITE software by allowing research facilities to collect data on a Palm-based, handheld device with an integrated barcode scanner. The ease-of-use of the Palm OS(R) platform combined with the advantages of barcode scanning moves the formerly time intensive process of data capture into one of efficiency and speed.

"Tracking the use and movement of research subjects in a laboratory environment is an important, but not so simple task," explains J. Patrick Guider, Jr., President of TOPAZ Technologies. "Some of our customers deal with tens of thousands of research subjects each day. A critical component of grants management for educational research facilities is the ability to accurately reflect per diem costs for these research subjects. Manual census activities occupy a great deal of facility management time and increase costs. Census Plus helps reduce these time and costs and is a welcome tool for our customers to improve their operations."

Jay Steinmetz, President of Barcoding.com, said, "Barcoding.com is proud to offer our first joint product in medical research space with TOPAZ Technologies. Census Plus allows GRANITE users to collect data quicker and more accurately than ever before. GRANITE customers can look for an immediate return on their investment in saved money and time."

Barcoding.com installs and integrates wireless barcode systems utilizing handheld portable devices and provides wireless solutions to many companies in the manufacturing, distribution and warehousing industries.

TOPAZ Technologies, Inc. provides regulatory compliant medical research software to over 80 of the world's top pharmaceutical, biotech, universities and government research facilities. Their core products, GRANITE and SCION assist researchers with productivity tools to reduce the cost of data collection and dissemination.
