Renowned as the world leader in creating exquisite wax portraiture, The Tussauds Group will celebrate its U.S. debut with the opening of Madame Tussaud's Las Vegas in June 1999. The $20 million attraction will anchor the new Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino and promises to give guests a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet, mingle, touch, and be photographed with their favorite stars -- though autographs aren't likely.

Capturing the glamour of the world's most exciting locales, each Madame Tussaud's attraction emphasizes personalities that are meaningful to the cities in which they are located.

The 30,000-square-foot, two-story attraction will feature five highly-themed environments showcasing more than 100 specially crafted wax figures of some of the most popular film, television, music and sports celebrities, as well as legendary Las Vegas icons.

"Over the course of 200 years, our artists have perfected the art of wax portraiture to deliver an incredibly realistic and interactive experience to our guests," said Tony Peluso, vice president and development director U.S.A. for The Tussauds Group.

"Las Vegas, with more than 26 million visitors annually, is an ideal location for our first U.S. attraction. The city encourages curiosity and offers an opportunity for celebrity encounters, the driving force behind Madame Tussaud's."

As guests enter Madame Tussaud's Las Vegas, Barbra Streisand and Wayne Newton will welcome them. They will attend a star-studded gala with some of Hollywood's biggest names and the world's greatest athletes, witness a fantasy fight between Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield, attend an ultimate concert featuring the world's best crooners, learn about the history and art of wax modeling, and enter a Las Vegas time warp for a state-of-the-art, multimedia, theatrical tribute to the city's first superstar, Elvis Presley, "The King of Rock and Roll This article or section may contain original research or unverified claims.

A second Madame Tussaud's attraction is under construction in New York City. Scheduled to premiere in early 2001, the attraction will feature New York's biggest celebrities, sports heroes, world leaders and politicians.
