Barbed-wire barricades lie in the fields around Drumcree Church in Portadown Portadown (pôrtədoun`), town (1991 pop. 21,333), Craigavon dist., central Northern Ireland, on the Bann River. It is an important railroad and industrial center. Roses from Portadown nurseries are famous., Northern Ireland, in anticipation of the historically contentious Drumcree Orange parade held each July. The parade commission banned the march from entering the predominantly Catholic Garvachy Road, a decision that has resulted in violence between marchers and security forces in the past.
