Summer wouldn't be summer without the great taste of barbecue, and chicken wouldn't taste the same without the special flame-broiled flavor of El Pollo Loco El Pollo Loco is a fast-food restaurant chain and Mexican grilled chicken franchise. "El Pollo Loco" is Spanish for "The Crazy Chicken".

Combine the two, and you've got barbecue chicken with a sweet, spicy kick you won't find anywhere else. Irvine-based El Pollo Loco today announced the return of its popular Barbecue Chicken.

El Pollo Loco's Barbecue Chicken was first introduced in the summer of 1999. It returned to restaurants in the fall of 2000 as the winner of El Pollo Loco's "favorite flavor" contest. The celebrated chicken is smothered smoth·er

El Pollo Loco's Barbecue Chicken is available in restaurants from June 24 through Aug. 11, 2002. During this time, the chain's traditional flame-broiled chicken will also be available. Guests can mix their orders so they are able to enjoy both varieties.

El Pollo Loco will communicate the return of its Barbecue Chicken through a multi-media campaign that begins today. The commercials will appear as 15- and 30-second spots in select West coast markets. The limited time offer will also be communicated to both general market and Hispanic consumers through 60-second radio commercials in select West coast markets.

In addition to television and radio advertising, El Pollo Loco is using a wide mix of point-of-purchase vehicles to announce the return of its barbecue chicken. Merchandising components include exterior banners, interior translites and drive-thru signage.
