Robert Obeiter, Ph.D., and Keith Marason, CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000. , have joined the firm as principals and Daniel Frederick has been named a principal.

Obeiter and Marason expand the 100-person firm's capabilities in two major areas -- providing financial as well as economic analysis and helping electric utilities prepare to take advantage of open access to retail customers. Frederick, who has been with the firm for seven years, will continue to assist utility clients in assessing the implications of market change for business planning and regulatory strategy.

Barakat & Chamberlin specializes in assisting companies with competitive challenges associated with the transition from regulated to more open markets. Since 1982 it has assisted clients in the electric power, natural gas, cable television, telecommunications, transportation, and waste management industries with economic, market, strategic, and related services. Previously, Obeiter was vice president and director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office of XENERGY, Inc., and an executive at New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  Electric System. He earned a Ph.D. in resource economics from Clark University.
