Baptists to skip school.


Public schools are being run by the "enemies of God" who "allow the presence of gay student clubs, argue two prominent Southern Baptists, and they want all Baptist children pulled out. Thomas Pinckney Thomas Pinckney (1750–1828), was an American soldier, politician, and diplomat.

Pinckney was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and was educated in Great Britain (at Westminster) and France.

, and Bruce Shortt, a Houston attorney, together submitted a resolution in June for the denomination's annual convention in Indianapolis, raging all Southern Baptists to remove their children from public schools.

"This resolution is no more intolerant in·tol·er·ant

a. Unwilling to tolerate differences in opinions, practices, or beliefs, especially religious beliefs.

 than God is intolerant," Pinckney said. "God is intolerant of all sin."

Eliza Byard, deputy executive director of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, said schools are the places where children learn how to function in a diverse society. "Students who don't have opportunities to develop those skills are at a distinct disadvantage," Byard said.
