CAD to All Women Who Receive Mammograms

R2 Technology, Inc., a leader in computer-aided detection (CAD) and visualization, announced today that Baptist Health South Florida has purchased eight R2 ImageChecker(R) computer-aided detection (CAD) systems. The new CAD systems will be installed immediately at seven facilities, including South Miami South Miami, city (1990 pop. 10,404), Dade co., SE Fla., a suburb of Miami; settled 1899, inc. 1926. . R2's ImageChecker system has the potential to detect findings that might otherwise be overlooked during the review process, thus increasing cancer detection. CAD technology also is especially effective in identifying calcifications, some of which can be cancerous. Clinical trials demonstrated that use of the ImageChecker system could result in earlier detection of up to 23.4 percent of the cancers currently detected with screening mammography mammography, diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X rays to detect abnormalities in the breasts.
