 Advanced Technology, an affiliate of NTT, has purchased a minority stake in Nihon Banyan banyan (băn`yən), species of fig (Ficus bengalensis) of the family Moraceae (mulberry family), native to India, where it is venerated. Its seeds usually germinate in the branches of some tree where they have been dropped by birds.  Systems K.K., its Japanese subsidiary.

Under the terms of the agreement, NTT Advanced Technology will purchase a 10 percent equity position in Nihon Banyan Systems K.K. Banyan Systems will remain the majority shareholder. NTT Advanced Technology now joins Marubeni Corp. as a joint venture partner with Banyan Systems.

Also as part of the agreement, NTT Advanced Technology will provide Banyan enterprise network software to its parent company, NTT.
