The StreetLegal product allows network administrators to implement both monitoring and control of users' software utilization. Monitoring produces reports to network administrators that detail software usage on a per user basis, allowing administrators to passively monitor software utilization.

Control produces the same type of auditing information but adds the ability to closely manage a "bank" of software license agreements. The control feature allows users to check-in and check-out licenses for software products. This is particularly useful for users that are licensing software on a "concurrent use" basis, allowing users to be denied access to software when the quantity of purchased licenses is exhausted.

"LANShark is pleased to be working with Banyan as a strategic partner to be delivering critical capabilities such as licensing services to Banyan's customers. The StreetLegal implementation takes full advantage of StreetTalk's ease of use and management features and is fully integrated with the VINES Server and Vines IP protocol. StreetLegal delivers the highest level of licensing functionality to Banyan customers," said Scott Sharkey, president of LANShark Systems.

The StreetLegal product will be shipped with all copies of VINES and enabled to monitor all Banyan software at no charge to ensure compliance with Banyan license agreements. Customers that would then like to use this same StreetLegal service to monitor and control licensees from other software vendors can upgrade the service by paying a per user license fee to Banyan.

StreetLegal is expected to ship from Banyan in June and will initially support Windows and Windows 95 clients. The list price for StreetLegal will be $10 per supported workstation.
