The orders were placed to expand and upgrade existing networks.

Acknowledged for its deployment of cutting edge technology to enhance service delivery, STB's expansion is part of a migration to a private IP-based network. STB, which is one of several banks in Nigeria using STM's VSAT products, was originally using a shared network with access through a local service provider. Mark Campbell Mark Joseph Campbell (December 6, 1975 in Clawson, Michigan) is an American Football tight end in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints. He has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. He played college football at the University of Michigan. , the IT Manager of STB, said, "With the increasing volume of traffic among our 40 branches served by VSATs, migration to a private network environment was essential to improve our service quality and economics. We are very pleased with the combination of STM's advanced VSAT technology and direct support in Nigeria."

The new expansion by BEAC will allow many of their regional branches in member countries in the French speaking central part of Africa to have direct, digital phone and video connections as part of a modern, private communications network. STM was originally awarded a contract by BEAC to deliver and install a state of the art IP network as part of BEAC's automated transaction processing.

STM's VSAT products are designed to offer cost effective and on-demand voice, data, and video communications. Emil Youssefzadeh, STM's Chief Executive Officer, said, "The latest orders from our customers in Africa, particularly in the banking sector, involve mission critical applications, which underscores the reliability of our networks and the ability of our systems to handle multiple concurrent applications."

In separate but related news, STM announced that it would establish in Lagos a new regional office for sub-Saharan Africa, providing sales and technical support to its customers and distributors. In this regard, Mr. Youssefzadeh said, "Our investment in the establishment of a new facility in Africa equipped to offer direct after sales technical support is a demonstration of our commitment to our customers and our expectation of regional growth. The reliability and quality of STM's VSAT products, combined with personalized support during provisioning and initial operation, have been major differentiators for the selection of STM by customers in Africa."
