Bankruptcies ratcheting up.


Bankruptcy bankruptcy, in law, settlement of the liabilities of a person or organization wholly or partially unable to meet financial obligations. The purposes are to distribute, through a court-appointed receiver, the bankrupt's assets equitably among creditors and, in most  filings are on the rise in anticipation The performance of an act or obligation before it is legally due. In patent law, the publication of the existence of an invention that has already been patented or has a patent pending,  of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (Pub.L. 109-8, 119 Stat. 23, enacted 2005-04-20), provided for significant changes in Bankruptcy in the United States, was passed by the 109th United States Congress on April 14, 2005 and signed into law  of 2005, which is effective Oct. 17.
