Banknorth Group, Inc., a $21 billion bank holding company based in Portland, Maine, has selected ImageSoft Technologies' new Titan Enterprise Edition (Titan e2) software suite to meet its document image and archive needs. Banknorth Group is one of the first ImageSoft customers to implement the Titan e2 document imaging and all-items archive system. ImageSoft is a unit of Fiserv, Inc. (Nasdaq:FISV).

The bank selected the Titan e2 solution because its inherent flexibility, scalability and performance can support the growth expected from the bank's aggressive acquisition strategy, according to Joseph W. Hanson, Executive Vice President of Banknorth Group, Inc.

Banknorth Group has deployed the new system at its centrally located check capture operation site in Haverhill, Massachusetts, where the bank has image-enabled its high-speed reader sorters for prime-pass image capture. The bank's central archive site, located in Lewiston, Maine, will be used as an all-items enterprise image archive for the entire holding company. The bank is currently processing approximately 9 million items per month at its Massachusetts site. By the end of 2002, when all bank locations are fully migrated to the Titan e2 suite, Banknorth Group expects to process approximately 30 million items per month on the system. The bank went "live" with the system in the first quarter of 2002.

ImageSoft Technologies recently unveiled Titan e2, calling it the most fully functional, flexible and robust system on the market today. With object-oriented, browser-based applications, Titan e2 is ultimately flexible, offering the promise of easy integration with other technologies, according to ImageSoft President Ron Thompson.

The Titan e2 system provides financial institutions with one image repository that can be used by all departments across the enterprise (i.e. customer support, cash management, teller, Internet banking, check processing). This is possible because the image-enabled software suite was built to handle high volumes with high-performance processing speeds.

Titan e2 was built using "CORBA" (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and the Internet programming language Java. The combined use of CORBA and Java has created a system that is designed to integrate with different systems, regardless of platform, database, operating system, programming language or network hardware/software used. By using an "anything in, anything out" approach, documents, in a wide variety of formats, can be accepted, recomposed and used in many ways, as well as transformed and rendered in many formats, without having to re-write any code.

Java programming enables the system to link to other Web-centric applications -- on-line banking, for example. Because Titan e2 is built for the Web, it can efficiently accommodate current and future Web initiatives including on-line banking, cash management and online viewing for onsite and remote users, according to Thompson.
