Banking on the future.


Supermarket chain Sainsbury's wants to cash in on the growing financial services sector by tripling the number of banking areas in its stores.

The group confirmed reports that it plans to install 70 new outlets of Sainsbury's Bank - its joint venture with banking group HBOS HBOS Halifax Bank of Scotland .

It follows a recent survey that predicted the number of customers using supermarket banks would rise from 5.8 million currently to 14.4 million by 2008.

IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Business Consulting Services, which carried out the survey for Sainsbury's, said supermarkets had to offer more in-store facilities for customers to deposit cash.
