Banking Infrastructure & Technology Services (BITS), the Technology and Telecommunications unit of Atlantic Central Bankers Bank (ACBB), Deploys AT&T's MPLS-Based Services for Network Redundancy and Traffic Routing Flexibility at Community Banks.

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Capabilities Improve Efficiencies in Internal Business Operations Business operations are those activities involved in the running of a business for the purpose of producing value for the stakeholders. Compare business processes. The outcome of business operations is the harvesting of value from assets

Atlantic Central Bankers Bank subsidiary, Banking Infrastructure & Technology Services, (ACBB-BITS) will deploy AT&T's Multi-Protocol Label Switching (networking) label switching - A routing technique that uses information from existing IP routing protocols to identify IP datagrams with labels and forwards them to a modified switch or router, which then uses the labels to switch the datagrams through the network.  (MPLS (1) (MultiProtocol Lambda Switching) The earlier name for GMPLS. See GMPLS.

)-based services as part of its converged IP Network architecture offering for community banks under a new three-year agreement announced today. AT&T Enterprise Services, Inc. on behalf of AT&T Corp. sold the wholesale services to ACBB-BITS.

AT&T's MPLS-based services will provide network redundancy and greater flexibility in routing and controlling traffic flows, including voice, video, image and data into and between branch office and headquarters locations for ACBB-BITS' community bank customers. Through the MPLS Private Network Transport (PNT PNT Point

), AT&T segregates data traffic transmitted over the AT&T IP network using MPLS to create a network-based IP Virtual Private Network (VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks. ).

"The immediate advantage of using AT&T's MPLS-based services is the robust "any-to-any" network connectivity it provides through redundant connections between the BITS network clusters and our community bank customers and their branch offices," said Chuck Daniels, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "MPLS also provides us with greater flexibility in controlling and routing traffic around any potential link failures, congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

 or bottlenecks."

"AT&T's proven leadership in delivering MPLS-based services enables us to help companies like ACBB-BITS strengthen their network infrastructure," said Sherry Charles, vice president, AT&T Wholesale Marketing, AT&T Enterprise Services, Inc. "ACBB-BITS is now able to connect its community bank customers on multiple VPNs, helping to improve efficiencies in internal business operations."

Today's announcement is the latest in a string of recent contracts ACBB-BITS has concluded within the last month, including agreements with Cisco and VeriSign, among others. The agreements signal ACBB-BITS' success in enabling community banks throughout the mid-Atlantic region to transition from traditional "point-to-point" circuit-switched networks to state-of-the art "any-to-any" converged IP Telephony and Data networks. For community banks, the changeover represents greater operational efficiencies and enhanced customer service offerings, as well as potential cost savings.
