Banker's family 'to appeal'.

THE devastated family of murdered bank boss Alistair Wilson are thinking of making a public appeal for information to catch his killer.

Police said last night a family member - possibly Alistair's wife, Veronica - may issue a plea for people to come forward.

The revelation came as officers set up roadblocks in Nairn to question people exactly a week after the murder in the town.

Detectives have admitted they are no closer to finding a motive for the 30-year-old being gunned down on his own doorstep.

Chief Inspector Peter MacPhee, who is leading the investigation, said: 'We have discussed the potential for a public appeal.

'The family are giving it serious consideration.'

He also revealed police were investigating reports of a sighting of a Jeep outside the Wilsons' home a week before the murder.

Mr MacPhee said he hoped last night's roadblocks, between 6pm and 8.30pm, would jog locals' memories over the murder.

He said: 'We're trying to identify people who were in the area at this time last Sunday. They may have seen something that is of interest to us, but have not thought it important.'

Mrs Wilson, 33, answered the door to the killer just after 7pm. He asked for her husband by name. His family are now under armed guard at a secret location.

The gunman is described as aged 35 to 40, about 5ft 4in, stocky and clean-shaven. He wore a baseball cap and a blouson-style dark jacket.
