Bank to axe more workers.


HUNDREDS of Scots bank jobs are to be axed in the latest blow to the financial sector, it was announced yesterday.

The Lloyds group said they would cut 355 more Scottish jobs as they continue to integrate operations with HBOS HBOS Halifax Bank of Scotland .

Unions said they were "astonished" by the latest cuts.

The bulk of the posts - 335 - will go in group operations, which carries out support functions such as payment and business services.

Lloyds group operations director Mark Fisher said: "By bringing the businesses together, we will be better placed for the future."

Rob MacGregor, the union Unite's national officer, said: "This loss of over 2000 jobs marks the largest single job loss announcement since the formation of Lloyds Banking Group in January.

"Morale is truly low as employees across Lloyds are in a permanent state of anxiety as they see hundreds of job losses every week.
