Bank robbery suspect arrested.

A man believed responsible for the biggest bank heist in Eugene's history was arrested in Philadelphia this week.

FBI agents arrested Raheim Antone Carter, 23, of Eugene on Monday. He is charged with using a rifle to rob the Washington Mutual Bank branch near Valley River Center on Dec. 23 of $83,880 - the largest amount ever taken from a Eugene bank, according to the FBI.

Carter's girlfriend, Amanda Louise Jacobson, 21, of Eugene, has been charged with conspiring with Carter, who uses the name Ryder, to rob the bank.

Jacobson worked as a vault teller at the branch located at 1111 Valley River Drive.

According to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Eugene, Jacobson sent bank employees home early that evening, except for an 18-year-old high school intern.

Jacobson allegedly left three vault doors and the vault's cash drawers unlocked. She turned out the lights and pretended that her keys didn't work in the front door, FBI special agent Joseph Boyer wrote in the complaint.

As Jacobson and the intern stood near the unlocked door, a man wearing a puffy black jacket and a black and white mask similar to the one in the horror movie "Scream," pushed his way into the bank. He told the women, "Get inside the building. This is a robbery," the complaint said.

He ordered the women toward the vault, keeping his hand inside a duffel bag the entire time.

Court papers allege that Jacobson put stacks of $20 bills inside a lunch box the robber carried. He ran from the bank, and Jacobson pushed the alarm and called 911.

Eugene police officers arrived and examined the door lock but found nothing to indicate it had malfunctioned. They were immediately suspicious of Jacobson's story, the complaint said. She later told an FBI agent that she owed thousands of dollars to her landlord, credit card companies and cellular phone provider.

A look at Jacobson's phone records showed that she had called Carter four times in the hours before the robbery and 26 times in the hours afterward, Boyer wrote.

Jacobson eventually admitted to helping Carter plan and execute the robbery, the complaint said.

"Jacobson agreed to because she was in love with him and they said they would be together forever," Boyer wrote. She said she knew he planned to rob the bank that night.

Carter gave her $1,200 after the robbery, the complaint said. He offered more, but she refused to take it.

The day after the robbery, Carter showed up at a friend's house wearing new clothes and a new watch and flashing a wad of cash worth at least $8,000, Boyer wrote. He said he was thinking about going to Las Vegas.
