Bank of the West Announces Next-Generation Internet Banking.


SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--JULY 9, 1999--

Bank of the West has teamed up with a nationally known technology company to provide its next generation of Internet Internet

Publicly accessible computer network connecting many smaller networks from around the world. It grew out of a U.S. Defense Department program called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), established in 1969 with connections between computers at the
 banking. The new product will be easier to use and provide more on-line banking services.

"The leading-edge product will work as easily as an ATM," said Don J. McGrath, president and chief executive officer of Bank of the West. "If you can use an ATM, you'll be comfortable with our new Internet See Web 2.0 and Internet2.  banking system. We know that lots of people have been turned off by complexity of Web banking in the past, but advancing technology is making life simpler for users."

McGrath said Bank of the West views the Internet as "the next step in a natural progression of delivery channels for banking -- from person-to-person contact in the branches to telephone call centers to ATMs. The Internet isn't a replacement for these others, but an additional path for those who want to take it."
