Bank of Kyoto Adopts Hitachi's Finger Vein Authentication System for ATM Machines.Tokyo, Japan, Nov 9, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Hitachi announced on November 8 that the Bank of Kyoto has adopted its finger vein authentication system The combination of authentication server and authenticator, which may be separate devices or both reside in the same unit such as an access point or network access server. The authentication server contains a database of user names, passwords and policies, and the authenticator physically and will begin offering a biometrics service to customers on November 21. The bank issues a cash card embedded with a chip and installs automated teller machines automated teller machine (ATM), device used by bank customers to process account transactions. Typically, a user inserts into the ATM a special plastic card that is encoded with information on a magnetic strip. (ATMs) with a finger vein authentication capability at its three branches. The bank plans to deploy ATMs with the authentication capability in all of its branches by March 2006. The service covers ordinary and savings accounts. Hitachi and Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions jointly provide the bank with comprehensive support from issuing smartcards to ATM operations.
