Bank of America trading facility complete.

MBI Group president, Edward S. Campanella, announced the completion of Bank of America's 25,000-SF temporary trading facilities for its securities division at 100 West 33rd St., on the 9th Floor, following the Sept. 11 attacks.

Bank of America swiftly relocated its trading operations to a back-up facility in Secaucus, N.J. until new Manhattan facilities could be constructed, enabling seamless banking and trading activities. MBI's work included the construction of an IT room with supplemental air conditioning, trader stations on raised flooring which allow for extensive power, security, data and voice cabling and exposed ceiling slabs which required considerable repair. Exposed ductwork and indirect lighting were special features of the design along with a "popcorn" finish on the exposed slab. The project architects were principals from both Tuller McNealus Feld and Nelson Associates.

Project directives included the fast-track, four-week construction schedule which required multi-shift work crews and overlapped with the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

According to Darren Schumer, senior project manager in the Project and Development Management department of Jones Lang LaSalle,

Although your staff made it seem like they were just doing their jobs, MBI truly did go above and beyond the call of duty. In just four weeks the 25,000 SF space went from existing conditions that our client originally felt were unsafe and unsightly into a truly neat looking sophisticated open environment that 125 Bank employees are glad to be in. Not to mention the fact that this was built during the holiday season."
