The event took place on the plaza of Bank of America's headquarters building in the heart of San Francisco's financial district. Nineteen BofA employees stuffed themselves into a shiny new Yellow VW Beetle to help launch the Triple Win Sweepstakes program for the bank's VERSATEL(R) Check Card debit card debit card, card that allows the cost of goods or services that are purchased to be deducted directly from the purchaser's checking account. They can also be used at automated teller machines for withdrawing cash from the user's checking account. .

 as people think," said Kathy Yee, a BofA vice president whose unit will give away three new VW Beetles as grand prizes in the sweepstakes.

The VERSATEL(R) Check Card is BofA's ATM card An ATM card (also known as a bank card, client card, or cash card) is an ISO 7810 card issued by a bank, credit union or building society.

Its primary uses are:
 that doubles as a debit card. It can be used to pay for purchases at supermarkets, restaurants, retail stores and all merchants that accept Visa for payment.

Other groups have tried to set car-stuffing records over the years. Eighteen people in a first group squeezed inside the car setting an initial world record for the '98 VW Beetle. A second team of 19 BofA employees surpassed that initial record a few minutes later. The names of both groups of Bank of America employees who participated in the event follow:

--   Customers who use Bank of America's VERSATEL(R) Check Card to pay
     for purchases will automatically be entered in the Triple Win
     Sweepstakes each time they use the card to make a purchase.

--   The Triple Win Sweepstakes is being held from July 1 through
     August 31.

--   A total of 1,000 customers -- whose names are picked during
     weekly sweepstakes drawings -- will win triple the amount of the
     purchase they made using their VERSATEL(R) Check Card.

--   In addition, three grand prize winners will win a Volkswagen New
     Beetle. All VERSATEL(R) Check Card users whose names are entered
     during the July/August Triple Win Sweepstakes will be eligible to
     win a grand prize.
