Bank of America Foundation Donates $50,000 to Taiwan Earthquake Relief Efforts.

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC TYO: 8648 ) is the largest commercial bank in the United States in terms of deposits, and the largest company of its kind in the world.
 Foundation today announced a $50,000 donation to aid victims of the recent earthquake in Taiwan. The grant will be made to the Puli puli (pl`ē, py`lē) (pl. pulik), a breed of wiry, medium-sized working dog developed nearly 1,000 years ago in Hungary.  Christian Hospital located near the earthquake's epicenter.

"Portions of the country have experienced considerable devastation," said Peter Banko, Taiwan Country Manager, Bank of America. "But there has been a tremendous outpouring of concern and aid is now coming into the country. We are thankful to have the support of our teammates around the world," he said.

In addition to the $50,000 donation made by Bank of America Foundation, individual bank associates have raised more than $10,000 that also will be contributed to earthquake relief.

"The Bank of America Foundation will be there to provide assistance to our customers and others in need when disaster strikes an area where we do business," said Lynn E. Drury, president of the Bank of America Foundation. Bank of America has 150 employees in Taiwan and has had a presence in the country since 1965.

The Puli Christian Hospital has a long history of providing medical service to those who populate the rural mountainous interior of Taiwan. Due to its location near the epicenter of the quake, the hospital suffered some damage but set up temporary facilities in parking lots to care for the injured. Additionally the hospital organized medical teams to trek into remote areas which had been cut off from regular transportation routes due to quake related destruction of roads.
