Bank of America (NYSE: BAC TYO: 8648 ) is the largest commercial bank in the United States in terms of deposits, and the largest company of its kind in the world.
 Foundation today announced its final series of Community Catalyst Grants for 1999, totaling $250,000 in 49 U.S. cities. As part of the bank's Community Catalyst Grants program, donations of $5,000 each were made to grassroots nonprofit organizations Nonprofit Organization

An association that is given tax-free status. Donations to a non-profit organization are often tax deductible as well.

Notes:
Examples of non-profit organizations are charities, hospitals and schools.
 across the country that support literacy.

The Bank of America Catalyst Grants is an ongoing program managed by the Bank of America Foundation, in which $250,000 in grants is awarded on a quarterly basis, or $1 million annually, to nonprofit organizations with operating budgets Noun 1. operating budget - a budget for current expenses as distinct from financial transactions or permanent improvements

Some recipients of this quarter's Bank of America Community Catalyst Grants include:

-- Inter-City Upbeat, Inc., located in a low-income area of West

Palm Beach, Fla., which provides health care, family and social

services, community development, job training and literacy and

education programs. It will use the grant to enhance tutoring

programs in reading, writing, math, and GED GED

-- Pittsburg Public Library Board of Pittsburg, Kan., which will use

the funds to create &uot;Books to Go&uot; learning kits. The

which provides the community with tutoring, literacy and English

as a Second Language programs and last year served more than 200
