The Bank of Ireland (Irish: Banc na hÉireann yesterday insisted it was not using debt collectors to recover cash from small firms. It also said it would investigate claims equipment is being repossessed from contractors who have paid off as much as 80% of their loans. Fianna Fail TD Johnny Brady pressed bank chiefs before a parliamentary committee about allegations struggling business owners are being intimidated. He said: "What we are being told is you are sending out debt collectors, heavy gangs terrifying people, some of them with criminal records."
