VANCOUVER -- Citizens Bank of Canada Citizens Bank of Canada is a British Columbia, Canada based virtual bank insured by the CDIC that was started in 1997. Shared Interest recipients are chosen through a unique process whereby not-for-profits are nominated nom·i·nate

1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election.

2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor.
 and considered for funding by bank members and employees.

Among the recipients of Shared Interest grants are:

* Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization that enables low-income people to own affordable, livable housing. Headquartered in Americus, Ga., it was founded in 1976 by businessman Millard Fuller and his wife.  (Canada) Ltd.,

* Better Environmentally Sound Transportation,

* Developing Countries Farm Radio Network,

* Change for Children Association,

* The Working Centre Redwood Shelter,

* Youth Community Outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.  AIDS Society,

* Peterborough Green-up.

The Shared Interest Fund is based on $1 per year for every $1,000 on deposit, plus 10 cents for each Shared Interest VISA credit card transaction. Bank members vote for one of eight finalist not-for-profits (chosen from the nominees by a committee of bank members, employees and NGO NGO
