Bank One Launches New Overnight Payment Service; New Feature Lets Customers Send Checks as Late as 10 p.m. for Next-Day Delivery.

CHICAGO -- Bank One today announced the launch of Overnight Check, a service that allows its customers to send a check as late as 10 p.m. EST for next-business-day delivery to anywhere in the continental U.S. The payment delivery service, available through BankOne.com, is the first of its kind offered to consumers on a financial website.

Bank One already enables customers to make electronic payments to most merchants in just two days. The new service offers checking account

customers the option to send money even more quickly.

"We want our customers to be able to make payments to anyone, anytime from anywhere," said Charles Scharf, head of Retail Financial Services for JPMorgan Chase, Bank One's parent company. "Overnight Check complements our other payment options by allowing people to send a check late in the evening without leaving home."

Overnight Check uses UPS to deliver an official bank check, using funds from a customer's Bank One checking account, to anywhere in the continental U.S. on the next business day by 10:30 a.m. local time. Customers can track the status of their payments at UPS.com using a UPS tracking number.

"We found that many of our customers regularly have a need to send a check overnight, either because they've forgotten to make an important payment, they want to avoid a late fee, or because they need to get money to their son or daughter quickly," Scharf added.

Overnight Check offers customers a convenient and affordable option to:

--Avoid late payment penalties,

--Send money to family or friends quickly, or

--Send a check to anyone directly from their checking account for next-day delivery.

The fee for the service is $14.99. The service will become available to Chase checking account customers through Chase.com upon completion of the company's merger integration. Bank One merged with JPMorgan Chase in July 2004.

Along with the Overnight Check service, Bank One checking account customers have access to:

--Free checking with direct deposit,

--Free e-mail alerts,

--Free bill pay, and

--Free access to more than 6,500 Bank One and Chase ATMs.
