 clash with Sheffield in Yorkshire on Thursday evening was rained off, suffered the same fate at Scunthorpe last night as their Premier League fixture against the Scorpions was a late morning victim of the torrential rain which hit the country.

No date has been fixed as yet for the latter but Berwick will travel again to the Owlerton Stadium in Sheffield next Thursday to try to complete their away programme in the Premier Trophy North Section.

Twenty four hours earlier Berwick travel to the Norfolk Arena in King's Lynn for the first leg of their KO Cup quarter-final against the ante- post League and Cup favourites, with the second leg not due at Shielfield Park There was a ground at Shielfield Park, named after land owned by local butcher William Shiel Dods, since 1890, however following an argument in 1902 Berwick Rangers left Shielfield and spent the following 50 years at a number of other sites in Berwick, including temporary spells at  until mid- June. Bandits' number one, William Lawson, misses the trip to Norfolk as he rides in the British final that night but manager Dave Peet has called up Andre Compton as a Guest, from Workington Comets.

The Bandits complete their 2009 home programme for the Premier Trophy when Sheffield Tigers come to Shielfield Park tonight (7pm) with a return for the recent pounds 1,000 winner of the Meldrum Milestone, Richie Hawkins, ably backed up by Ricky Ashworth and Richard Hall.

Newcastle are all prepared for their all-important 80th Anniversary meeting tomorrow at 5.30pm [Doors 4pm].

A host of top class riders including Elite League stars Rory Schlein (Coventry), James Wright (Belle Vue), Bjarne Pedersen (Poole), Daniel King (Ipswich), Leigh Lanham (Ipswich) and Travis McGowan (Swindon) will battle it out alongside the Premier League's best for the biggest prize fund ever in the North East.

The meeting will take place on the actual date of the very first meeting held at Brough Park Stadium, but in 1929 it was a Friday.

Admission Prices for this special meeting are Adults pounds 15, OAPs pounds 10 and Children (5-16) pounds 3.
