The shut-down also affected normal life in various places like Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Balasore, Puri, Balangir, Baripada and Khurda. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the State as the bandh remained peaceful. Several trains were stranded at different railway stations as protesters blocked tracks. Trains like Hyderabad-Howrah Faluknama Express, Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express and Bhubaneswer-New Delhi Rajdhani Express were stranded for some time at the Bhubaneswar station. Similarly, Howrah-Koraput Samaleswari Express and Howrah-Ahmedabad Express were stopped for some time at Rourkela and other stations. Security was tightened throughout the State with deployment of about 62 platoons to deal with any untoward incident. The Samajwadi Party Odisha unit president Rabi Behera in a Press release said the hartal was a success in Odisha. "People have given spontaneous support to the hartal," Behera added.
