FORGET about X Factor - Britain's best band is right here on your doorstep.

Tyneside rock band Luxon Bute have won a national talent contest to be crowned the best young band in Britain.

The 16-year-old rockers, from Newcastle and Ponteland, wowed judges with their quirky quirk

Lead singer Josh Taylor Josh Taylor (born September 25, 1943 in Princeton, Illinois) is an American actor, best known for his roles of Chris Kositchek and Roman Brady on the American soap opera Days of our Lives and Michael Hogan, the father figure on the situation comedy  said: "It's fantastic, we're so pleased. I think we impressed them because we're a bit different."

The band began three years ago when Josh teamed up with guitarist Daniel Smithson with the intention of playing just one gig at their former school, Ponteland Middle School. More musicians were soon recruited until the band morphed into the present six-man outfit.

Live and Unsigned is the biggest talent contest after the famous X Factor and more than 10,000 acts registered for 2008's contest.

The lads have their own My Space page and have launched their own website, www.luxonbute.com, and their diary is jam-packed with gigs for the rest of the year.
