Band finds opportunity in salvage.

More than 102,000 cubic metres of mountain pine beetle The mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae, is a species of bark beetle native to the forests of western North America from Mexico to central British Columbia.  wood will be salvaged through a new forestry agreement reached with the Skeetchestn Indian Band The Skeetchestn Indian Band is a member of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation, located in the Central Interior region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. Its main Indian reserve is located at Savona, British Columbia. .

Under the three-year agreement, the band will gain access to 102,351 cubic metres of beetle wood in the Kamloops Timber Supply Area. The volume augments a forest and range opportunities agreement reached with the band in July, which provided $1.2 million in shared revenue and 125,315 cubic metres of timber.

"Our goal is to use these short-term forestry opportunities to create long-term economic stability for our people," said Chief Eddy Jules. "We want to be prepared for life after the mountain pine beetle infestation infestation /in·fes·ta·tion/ (-fes-ta´shun) parasitic attack or subsistence on the skin and/or its appendages, as by insects, mites, or ticks; sometimes used to denote parasitic invasion of the organs and tissues, as by helminths. ."

"It will also help the Skeetchestn people broaden their economic foundation, and create new jobs for band members," said Kamloops MLA MLA
