Band's feel good factor.

IT WAS a sunny Sunday afternoon but there were still few better places you could have spent it than in Huddersfield Town Hall.

For despite the temptations of being outdoors on such a great day, a hall filled with musical talent was well worth the sacrifice.

Lindley Band are past masters at the big concert. They filled Huddersfield Town Hall on Sunday with a Summer Proms packed with guests and their own talented musicians. The Summer Proms raised spirits and raised money for Kirkwood Hospice.

Halifax Young Singers, directed by Lynn Hudson, brought the sunshine into the hall with everything from Bohemian Rhapsody to The Prayer of the Children, American composer Kurt Bestor's tribute to children in the light of conflict in Yugoslavia.

Making this a real family affair was Lynn's husband Thom Meredith, principal of Kirklees Music School, here in the role of tenor soloist, singing everything from the stylish work of Hoagy Carmichael to the laughter of My Lawn by Instant Sunshine. How appropriate.

The concert got its real air of community from the band whose energy and sheer sense of fun always give their concerts a feel good factor and from its exciting young guest artist, super percussionist Mark Wagstaff.
