Banctec sells image processing systems valued at $2.4 million to NBD Bank and USAA Property & Casualty.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 1994 --BancTec, Inc. (NASDAQ-BTEC) announced today that it has received orders totaling approximately $2.4 million from two major U.S. document processors. NBD Bank, based in Detroit, and San Antonio based USAA Property and Casualty will each install BancTec's ImageFIRST' OSA financial document processing system at their respective operations centers.

NBD Bank (NBD) will install an ImageFIRST system for image rejected check repair applications at its Belleville, MI operations center. The bank will utilize BancTec's application software, an image-enabled 700 document per minute transport and various other system components to process all checks that have been previously damaged or that cannot be otherwise processed in the bank's normal check processing cycle. Those checks (industry-wide approximately 2% of all checks written) will be 'repaired' on-site by bank employees utilizing the ImageFIRST system's enhanced character recognition capabilities, digital imaging technology and various other advanced features. Financial documents will immediately be re-encoded and re-entered into the check processing cycle, saving processing time and yielding significant cost savings. NBD will utilize the ImageFIRST system to repair and re-enter approximately 30,000 damaged checks each day.

USAA Property and Casualty will utilize an ImageFIRST OSA system with Intelligent Character Recognition to process approximately 1.7 million insurance payments each month at its operations center. USAA, a major U.S. financial services company, specializes in providing a wide variety of insurance products, investment instruments, retirement programs, consumer loan services, credit cards and other services to over 2.6 million members.
