BancorpSouth Inc. of Tupelo, Miss., is buying City Bancorp, the parent company of Signature Bank of Springfield, Mo., for $170 million.


* BancorpSouth Inc. of Tupelo, Miss., is buying City Bancorp, the parent company of Signature Bank of Springfield, Mo., for $170 million. City Bancorp shareholders would receive 50 percent cash and 50 percent BancorpSouth common stock in the deal. Signature Bank had about $847 million in assets and $600 million in deposits as of Sept. 30. BancorpSouth, the fifth-largest banking operation in Arkansas, has $11.9 billion in assets.
