MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Solution Helps Leading Financial Institution Protect Business-Critical Data and Meet Regulatory Requirements

"Our main goal is to ensure that we can quickly restore data and operations to continue to serve our customers quickly, both day-to-day and in the case of unplanned downtime. If a natural disaster -- such as a hurricane -- were to strike in Miami, we would use VERITAS software to seamlessly transfer data to our secondary site in New York for quick recovery," said Eugene Rivera Eugene Rivera is a fictional character played by Nelson Vasquez in the HBO drama Oz. , technical support manager, Banco Santander International. "Combined with Peribit, VERITAS software gives us the peace of mind that our critical customer data and customer-facing applications are protected and available, to help ensure day-to-day business continuity and quick disaster recovery."

Using VERITAS Volume Replicator to automate the replication process, Banco Santander International has also eliminated the time previously spent manually restoring data. "Before deploying VERITAS software, our business continuity plan involved manually backing-up our systems at the end of the day and couriering the tapes to New York, where one of our engineers would conduct a manual restore," explained Rivera. "By using VERITAS Volume Replicator to automate the replication process we have eliminated the time and expense of couriering our tapes, resulting in a 100 percent improvement in replication time. Additionally, our engineers are now able to focus on more strategic work."

As Banco Santander International's business grows, the volume of data that needs to be protected increases as well. To avoid paying $60,000 for an additional T1 network to handle increased traffic, the bank turned to Peribit to deliver a network optimization solution to increase overall network performance and deliver faster application response times. "We save even more money using Peribit Sequence Reducers because we're able to maximize the performance of VERITAS Volume Replicator without having to expand our network infrastructure," noted Rivera.

With VERITAS Volume Replicator, Banco Santander International has reduced costly hardware expenditure as well. "Because VERITAS Volume Replicator maximizes our existing hardware infrastructure, we have saved at least $50,000 in hardware costs alone," said Rivera.

Together, VERITAS and Peribit Networks allow customers to replicate their critical data across their existing wide area network (WAN) connection. Peribit Networks instantly increases existing WAN capacity by up to 10 times without time consuming and expensive WAN upgrades, while VERITAS Volume Replicator delivers high performance data replication services to help ensure business continuity when data loss and prolonged downtime cannot be tolerated.
