BancTec and RIMS to offer Enhanced Image Solutions for Health Claims Processing.


DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 1996--BancTec, Inc. (BTC-NYSE) and Resource Information Management Systems, Inc. (RIMS) announced today that BancTec has purchased the health claims imaging and workflow applications A workflow application is where various applications, components and people must be involved in the processing of data to complete an instance of a process.  Software Division of BancTec (Plexus) will assume all responsibility for RIMS' health claims application products and provide on-going support and services to the RIMS customer base. The agreement also includes a provision for Plexus and RIMS to jointly market the products both externally and within the RIMS customer base.

Plexus will integrate the health claims imaging and workflow applications, as well as associated services, into its product development and support operations. As part of the agreement, key RIMS personnel associated with the product have become Plexus employees. Plexus will market the products together with its broad line of imaging and workflow software through Plexus' direct sales force and marketing partners.

The imaging and workflow products provide health claims imaging from scanners and fax, indexing and folder In a graphical user interface (GUI), a simulated file folder that holds data, applications and other folders. Folders were introduced on the Xerox Star, then popularized on the Macintosh and later adapted to Windows and Unix. In Unix and Linux, as well as DOS and Windows 3.  management, claims processing host interface, COLD and claims archival storage management and retrieval. The most current product releases are based on Plexus-supplied imaging software and can take advantage of Plexus' FloWarer workflow product. Current customers include third-party administrators, insurance companies, managed care organizations, government agencies and corporations.
