MFN and Cisco Systems Citywide Effort To

Deliver Customer-Focused Technology Solution

BancTec, Inc., a leading global systems integration, manufacturing and services company, will connect multiple locations within the Dallas metropolitan area over a private and unshared fiber-optic network provided by Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) (Nasdaq: MFNX).

To meet BancTec's growing need for virtually unlimited internal voice and data networking, MFN, the leader in the deployment of optical IP Internet infrastructure within key metropolitan areas domestically and internationally, worked closely with Cisco Systems Inc. and BancTec's telecommunications service provider. When completed, this project will mark the first joint effort, on a citywide scale, between the three companies and an enterprise user.

BancTec will use MFN's dedicated fiber-optic network for local and long-distance voice service, SAP access, e-mail, Internet browsing and connectivity to remote offices. It will deploy Cisco's industry leading ONS 15454 optical metro transport, employing Gigabit Ethernet technology and DS3/DS1 circuits. The network will utilize a SONET ring, connecting BancTec's Dallas-based data center and call center functions, corporate headquarters and a manufacturing plant to its telecom provider. Service is scheduled to start this quarter.
