Banagas post tough victory against BTI.

BANAGAS moved on top in the Golden Square round of the Industrial Basketball League following a tough 78-74 victory over Bahrain Training Institute (BTI) at the Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.

Isa Ebrahim and Younes Kuwayed were the top scorers for the winners with 16 points while Ebrahim Al Khabbaz (15), Ahmed Al Doy (14) and Jassim Mohammed (8) contributed to the victory.

BTI, who were handed their first defeat in two games, had big hopes on Sadeq Mahdi who scored 19 points, Sayed Kadhim Majed (16) and Mahmood Akbar (10) were also the top players for the losers.

It was the second successive win for Banagas who now have four points from two matches. The second place is being shared by BTI and Alba.

Alba defeated Garmco 94-54 as they picked up their maiden win in this crucial round which revived their title chances while Garmco are out of contention, having suffered their second consecutive defeat.

Mohammed Hassan stole the limelight of the match, scoring 30 points while Hassan Ebrahim (15), Mahmood Ghuloom (12), Mohammed Abdulmajeed (10) and Mohammed Qurban (6) were also in a good form.

The championship will be decided tonight at 5.30pm when Banagas and Alba clash for the title. Later, BTI take on Garmco at 7.30pm.
