The Old Covenant (Icelandic Gamli sáttmáli ) was the name of the agreement which effected the union of Iceland and Norway. preventing it being pulled down was lifted. The pounds 3m rebuilding deal came after the Jewish community agreed to pay pounds 100,000 to lift the law which stopped the Mather Avenue structure being used for anything other than religious purposes. Allerton Hebrew Congregation wants to replace the 1950s building with a smaller synagogue and 24 flats for elderly residents. The congregation has shrunk shrunk v.
