Baltimore Technologies announces native Java Cryptography Library.

DUBLIN, Ireland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1997--Baltimore Technologies Ltd., a leader in information security software, today announced "J/Crypto", a 100% pure Java Refers to initiatives from Sun that specify 100% compliance with its Java specification. The goal is to maintain a consistent, single interface for Java so that all Java Virtual Machines can run all Java programs. See Holy Grail.  cryptographic toolkit for applications programmers.

J/Crypto is the first cryptography class library designed for commercial Java applications. Written by Baltimore Technologies Baltimore Technologies was an internet security firm founded in 1976 by Michael Purser. It was acquired in 1996 by a team financed by Dermot Desmond and led by Fran Rooney, who became CEO. , experts in cryptography toolkits, J/Crypto offers full-strength encryption and signing facilities to develop the highest level security applications.

J/Crypto is a 100% pure Java implementation of the most common cryptographic functions used in security systems worldwide. J/Crypto offers full-strength RSA (1) (Rural Service Area) See MSA.

(2) (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) A highly secure cryptography method by RSA Security, Inc., Bedford, MA (www.rsa.com), a division of EMC Corporation since 2006. It uses a two-part key.
public key cryptography An encryption method that uses a two-part key: a public key and a private key. To send an encrypted message to someone, you use the recipient's public key, which can be sent to you via regular e-mail or made available on any public Web site or venue. , DES, Triple-DES, SHA-1 and a complete support library. It is fully compatible with the Java Cryptography Architecture The Java Cryptography Architecture (JCA) is a framework for working with cryptography using the Java programming language. It forms part of the Java security API, and was first introduced in JDK 1.1 in the java.security package.  (JCA (1) (Java Cryptography Architecture) An umbrella term from Sun for implementing security functions for the Java platform. It includes Sun's Java Security API as well as the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE), which adds more programming interfaces for encryption ) as a Java Cryptography Extension (JCE See JCA. ) for the new release of Java 1.1. It also provides additional classes to offer total compatibility with Java 1.0.2, the most common version of Java available now.

Full details, including Java classes specification, are available on Baltimore's web site at "www.baltimore.ie/jcrypto.htm".

Java has fast become one of the most popular programming languages for a variety of languages and there is a large demand for a commercial cryptographic library for commercial use. Baltimore Technologies is a leading supplier of cryptographic toolkits and its Crypto Systems Toolkit (CST CST

Fran Rooney, managing director, commented: "Our existing customers have been quick to develop new applications in Java and have immediate requirements for professional, full-strength cryptographic libraries. Baltimore Technologies is first to the market with a reliable, tested and supported Java library. We will be significantly adding to the functionality of J/Crypto in the future with a range of new algorithms and security classes."

J/Crypto includes a range of Java classes including:

-- Multi-Precision Arithmetic

-- Pseudo-Random Number Generation

-- High-entropy seeding

-- RSA key generation

-- RSA Key signing (PKCS (Public Key Cryptography Standards) Specifications from RSA Laboratories for various techniques used with RSA public key cryptography. With cooperation from security experts worldwide, PKCS #1 covers the RSA standard itself.  #1 format)

-- SHA-1 Hashing

-- DES and Triple-DES encryption

-- Java Stream encryption

J/Crypto includes many advanced features which ensure that it is suitable for commercial applications. These features include:

-- Full-strength key sizes (512,1024, 2048 bit RSA keys,

112-bit Triple-DES)

-- Guaranteed unique RSA keys

-- Fast format RSA keys (Chinese remainder theorem & Fermat-5)

-- Elimination of weak & possibly weak DES keys

-- Obfuscation ob·fus·cate
