Baltimore Technologies Announces "C" and Java SSL; New Development Toolkits Provide Full-Strength Internet Security for Electronic Commerce Applications Worldwide.

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1998--InfoSecurity '98-- Baltimore Technologies, world leaders in information security and cryptography products, today released details of developer toolkits for e-commerce security.

The products, C/SSL and J/SSL, enable programmers to develop secure applications which communicate over the Internet.

The toolkits allow application programmers to easily add security to almost any Internet application such as electronic banking, online trading, remote access etc. Full-strength security is essential for all Internet applications which deal with confidential or financial data. Since the Internet provides very little security, application developers must add security facilities themselves.

Baltimore Technologies new products implement the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol promoted by Netscape, Microsoft and all leading computer companies. SSL is widely used in Internet systems such as Web Browsers and is the de-facto standard for client-server secure communications.

To date, non-US software companies have been hindered by the lack of full-strength security toolkits for Internet applications. These new products now ensure that European Internet developers can easily integrate full-strength SSL into any application for the worldwide market.

C/SSL is a high-speed toolkit based on Baltimore Technologies Crypto Systems Toolkit (CST) product. It is portable to a wide variety of platforms including Windows (16-bit and 32-bit), Linux, Solaris, VMS, MVS, Sun-OS and HP-UX. C/SSL will ship in May 1998.

Both J/SSL and C/SSL can easily integrate with a wide variety of Certification Authority (CA) software systems including UniCERT from Baltimore Technologies. CA systems provide Digital Certificates which provide identification for users and devices over the Internet.
